Hymenaios, Aphrodite and Eros

Hymenaios (Ὑμεναιος) or Hymen was the god of weddings, specifically the wedding hymn sung by the bride's train as she was escorted to the groom. It is said that Hymenaios had to be present at every wedding or the wedding would be disastrous. Because marriage is acquainted with love he is listed amongst the Erotes, making him the only one of the Erotes who was not a child of Aphrodite.

Depiction

Hymenaios is depicted in Greek Art and in some modern paintings as a winged child carrying a bridal torch somewhere in the bridal train.

Parents

Apollo and one of The Muses (either Kleio, Ourania, Kalliope or Terpsikhore)
